Editorial
The
Irish Garden is
Irelands gardening
monthly- written by Irish
gardeners for Irish
gardeners. Gardening in
Ireland is different. We
enjoy a unique climate on
the edge of Northern
Europe, combining warm
winters with cool summers
and an adequate rainfall
all year round. As a
result, we can grow an
amazingly broad range of
plants from around the
world, giving our gardens
the distinctive look so
much admired by overseas
visitors. Irish soils are
also unique. They offer
opportunities and
challenges in equal
measure, and
understanding soil is the
key to successful
gardening.Attitudes to
gardening have changed a
lot in recent years; for
the most part we do not
have the same long
tradition that exists in
other countries and we
have shaped the
appreciation of the place
of gardening in our lives
to suit ourselves.
We cater,
then, specifically for
Irish conditions -
although all those who
garden in mild climates,
or wish that they could
do so, will find
something to enjoy. The
Irish Garden is a general
interest magazine, aimed
at pleasing the widest
possible cross-section of
people interested in
gardening. It is packed
with
how-to-do
information and at the
same time has
long,well-illustrated
articles on good plants
and notable Irish
gardens. While we depend
on advertising support,
and are grateful to our
advertisers, we keep a
clear separation between
editorial and advertising
in the long-term
interests of both readers
and advertisers.
The editors
are Gerry Daly and
Mary Davies. Gerry
is one of Irelands
best known gardening
experts, with a broad
knowledge of horticulture
and extensive
television,radio and
newspaper experience.
Mary has wide editorial
experience and has been
very active in gardening
societies.
Advertising
It is
important to us that our
advertisers benefit from
the money they spend with
The Irish Garden
and that our readers are
kept informed of the wide
range of products and
services that are
available to them.
Geraldine Galvin, Jane
Donald and Suzanne
Mercier are happy to
quote for advertising
space and to discuss the
advertisers
requirements in a helpful
and constructive way.The
Irish Garden is a
member of the Audit
Bureau of Circulation and
averaged net sales of
23,069 copies per issue
between January and June
2000.
