If there is a dry
spell at any time during January or February
when the lawn areas are not soggy, take
advantage of the opportunity to mow the
grass. In mild areas, and in all areas in a
mild winter, the growth of grass continues
through winter in fits and starts. If no
mowing is done until March, or even April,
the grass burden is much more difficult to
deal with.
It is possible to
apply lawn moss-killer now, if the growth of
moss presents a problem, which it often does
on shady lawns and lawns that have not been
adequately fed the previous summer. Lawn
edges should be recut using a taut line of
string or a plank of wood to give a clean
edge.
If a lawn is to
be sown during the spring, the ground should
be cultivated during dry weather and allowed
to settle before sowing. If the ground has
already been cultivated and levelled, it can
be raked over during dry weather and weeds
controlled.
